The Albany Travelers, based in Albany, Georgia, were a founding member of the Class D Georgia-Florida League in 1935 and the only franchise to field a team every season of the league's existence through 1958. The team ran as the Travelers through 1938. Our design draws on the era's traveling salesmen, a familiar fixture of small-town commerce across the Depression-era South, as the visual identity for the Travelers name. Manager Johnny Keane guided the club in 1938 before remaining as the franchise became the Albany Cardinals as a St. Louis Cardinals affiliate in 1939, a relationship that lasted through the league's final year. Keane would later manage the St. Louis Cardinals to the 1964 World Series title.

In 1942, a 19-year-old shortstop named Red Schoendienst joined the Cardinals after the KITTY League folded mid-season. Still managing a vision problem from an earlier eye injury, Schoendienst had become a switch-hitter to compensate. He batted .269 in 68 games at Albany and was promoted to Lynchburg the following spring, then made his major league debut with the Cardinals in 1945, appeared in ten All-Star games, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.

Albany won the league championship in 1938 over Thomasville, 1939 over Valdosta in a four-game sweep, 1948, and 1952. The Georgia-Florida League was a Class D circuit that ran, with a wartime interruption from 1943 through 1945, from 1935 through 1958, fielding teams primarily from south Georgia with occasional representation from Florida and Alabama.
