The Cedar Rapids Raiders were the second-longest-tenured of the many minor league teams to call Cedar Rapids, Iowa, home over the years. The Raiders played from 1934 to 1942 and were a St. Louis Cardinals affiliate for part of that time. They started in the Western League and won it in 1937 with a 78-38 record, then moved to the Three-I League (the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League) in 1938 after the Western League disbanded.
The Raiders continued their success in the Three-I. They won the 1939 pennant by a game over Evansville but lost in the playoffs, then in 1940 took both the pennant and the playoff title. They repeated the double in 1942 before the league disbanded for the war. Baseball returned to Cedar Rapids in 1949 with a new franchise, the Cedar Rapids Rockets.
