The Freeport Pretzels were a minor league baseball team from the early 20th century with one of the most unusual nicknames we've seen. The 'Pretzels' moniker comes from the city's reputation as the Pretzel City from it being a baking hub in its early years.
The Pretzels run spanned from 1905-1910 with a small comeback in 1915. The Pretzels started in the Class D Wisconsin State League from 1905-09 (later called the Wisconsin-Illinois League). In their second season, they went 73-43 and finished two games out of first place. They would win the league the following year in 1907 with 79 wins. In 1910, they switched to the Northern League, which would collapse mid-season. The Pretzels would restart in 1915, but not make it through a full season again, as the Bi-State League would collapse mid-season as well.
