The Owensboro Oilers were one of the most stable Kitty League teams, playing every season from 1936 to 1955 except during World War II. They began as the Portageville Pirates in Missouri before moving to Owensboro mid-1936 and adopting the Oilers name in 1937. The team won league titles in 1946 and 1949, consistently making the playoffs from 1946 to 1951. Notable figures included Wally Schang, Travis Jackson, Tony Kubek, and Chuck Tanner, all of whom made significant marks in baseball history. The Oilers, affiliated at times with several major league clubs, folded alongside the rest of the Kitty League after the 1955 season.
